USA Today reported last week that phone books have become a thing of the past. In fact, most phone companies and publishers only put out residential white pages now, because states' public utilities commissions require it of them. It is a rule that is changing as the industry gets permission to offer the white pages by request only. In cities where the change has been implemented already, less than 3 percent of the residents have put in a request for the printed books. It's a trend that can be expected to continue as the tech savvy population will only increase.
