Tech Thursday

On Twitter this morning I found a link to this article: Can Facebook Save the World

It's the perfect topic for Tech Thursday because it addresses a very valid point. I've made it my business to promote technology - but technology is only a tool.

On its own, technology can accomplish nothing. Worse, using technology poorly is more reckless than not using it at all.

Without a plan, networking on Facebook is useless and Twitter is simply e-gossip.

We've come such a long way in such a short time that the potentials for e-marketing are only now being explored.

So, can Facebook save the world? The article points out flaws in the execution, not the technology. Joining networks to stop violence or show your support for victims is all well and good, but if all you do is click the "join group" button you're spinning your wheels. What is the point in joining if you aren't going to participate actively, and I don't mean only by adding comments to the group board.

Earth Hour was a huge success this year largely because the amount of people who talked about it through social networking. But they didn't just talk. Talk turned to plans. Plans became action.

Action is what gets results.

As always, thank you for reading,

This blog is a business card, a portfolio, if you will, highlighting the work I love. Thank you for reading, Mrs. Z
