Mashable has an interesting article on the 10 Most Extraordinary Twitter Updates - it's an older article, but still a very good read.
This is what catches my attention most:
It can take hours to write a good news article or blog post, 30 minutes to write a breaking news article, and even 5 minutes to write a couple lines to break the story. With status updates, it takes a matter of seconds. This has enabled Twitter to break news even before the news stations. It's not just Twitter, but technology in general that has and is changing the nature of journalism. The face of the modern journalist is Everyman, and in his reporting he steps beyond the narrow viewpoint offered by the titans who have controlled the media from the inception of publishing. Technology has created a broadcast that is flawed by opinions and culture and infinitely more alive. There is a beauty in the information exchange we've never before experienced - a wonder in the communication process that the world is a small place full of people just like us.
Be good to each other,
